Types of Membership:

There are three types of memberships offered to prospective members.  The following tables summarize the key differences and are further explained below.

The Affiliate and Regular member types are offered via CFAI. Cost is $375 to CFAI and $75 to SCFAS.  These require that a prospective member join CFAI and SCFAS.  If you are a CFA Charterholder or have passed Level III and are applying for your CFA Charter you would join SCFAS as either a Regular or Affiliate member.   More information on these two membership types including experience, sponsorship requirements, dues, as well as the application process can be accessed here.

Adjunct Member

SCFAS also offers an Adjunct Membership which is ideal for students, professionals that are either in the early stages of the CFA Program (LI or LII candidates), and professionals and academics (professors) that do not intend to sit for the exam.  Adjunct members have all of the privileges of Regular members except for the right to vote, hold office in the Society, and act as sponsors for membership.  If you are not participating in the CFA Program then the Adjunct Membership may be appropriate for you.

Three easy steps to become a SCFAS adjunct member:

1. Complete your profile including education and work, and add 2 sponsors who are SCFAS member or CFA charter holder;
2. Your sponsors got emails and submit the sponsorship form for your application;
3. Make a payment of $75 either by paypal, check, or cash to SCFAS;

The Stamford CFA Society was officially founded in May 1995 with just 15 members.  Since 1995, the Society has experienced substantial growth and remains one of the fastest growing local CFA societies globally.  The Society currently boasts over 400 members serving investment professionals in Fairfield and Westchester Counties.

Annual Forecast Dinner: This annual event features financial industry titans boldly making and publicly defending their investment forecasts for the coming year.  Previous speakers include Ralph Acampora (Managing Director, Global Equity Research at Prudential Financial) and Richard Blumenthal (Attorney General, State of Connecticut).

University Relations: The Stamford CFA Society is the premier conduit for students to access the investment industry to make contacts, seek jobs and earn scholarships toward earning the prestigious CFA charter.

a) To build a robust, mutually beneficial relationships with Fairfield and Westchester County employers and businesses with the goal of matching employer needs to our talented member pool
b) To communicate with all our members to let them know what’s happening in the Society and how they can get the most out of their membership.
c) To continue and strengthen SCFAS involvement in the hedge fund community
d) To encourage wider member participation in committee work and for specific projects.

Together, committee members plan programs, exchange ideas, provide peer support, and circulate employment and business opportunities.

Volunteer Now!

Experience as committee volunteers helps our members gain visibility as vital participants in their professions. It contributes to professional development. SCFAS committee membership is open to SCFAS members only. Open committee projects include:

Programs Committee – we need people who can create, plan and execute events relevant to Stamford CFA Society members. In the process, Programs Committee members get a chance to champion topics of personal and Society importance.

Corporate Outreach Projects – systematically building a contact list of local area (financial and non-financial) employers who may benefit from hiring Stamford CFA Society members. Solicit and contact local area employers, introducing the Stamford CFA Society and determining what needs they have that working with the SCFAS would fulfill.

Public Awareness Project– create and maintain the SCFAS Media Kit, re-establish our relationship with local and national media interested in Hedge Fund/Private Equity players and events in Westchester/Lower Fairfield County, CT.

Forecast Dinner Project 2012 network with local Hedge Funds, Private Wealth Managers, Pension funds and Funds of Funds to promote their sponsorship, participation and attendance in this well attended annual event.

Career Development Project – build a program in 2011/12 around local employers, executive recruiters, local universities and professional organizations in the area.

Education Project – Participate in the coming CFA test exams as proctors. Network with industry peers while practice exams being held.
