Fairway Market: Private Equity in a Hyper-Competitive Market

Private equity has never tasted better! Stamford CFA Society members and guests had the unique opportunity to gather at Fairway Market in Stamford to experience first-hand the shared vision of growth and quality by both Sterling Investment Partners, a middle-market private equity business in Westport, CT and Fairway Market, headquartered in NYC.

Attendees heard from the very articulate Fairway Chief Administrative Officer, Bill Sanford, about the value proposition offered to customers and its competitive advantage in a hyper-competitive business. Surrounded by a wide selection of fresh foods, Fairway label items, specialty imports and eating arrangements, we heard passionate descriptions from Cheesemonger and food expert Steven Jenkins. He also explained the intricacies of globally sourcing the hundreds of varieties of cheeses and oils that give Fairway its unique characteristic. Lastly, we were offered a glimpse into what Sterling Investment Partners values the most in its Fairway investment – the employees who engaged us through various aspects of the food store operations. This private equity investment is “like no other market”.

The Sterling –Fairway stores story is a family journey of passion, pride and care that is rare in most business. They have raised the bar in every area for competitors and investors alike

This event was a clear and passionate demonstration of Fairway’s branding and product differentiation from its competition. There is an unquestionably high level of commitment to quality and commitment to its customer base which is critical in the specialty grocery concept.
