SPEAKER BACKGROUND:
Chris Tormey is a founding partner of Spearpoint Capital, a Global Macro Hedge Fund located in New York City.
Prior to founding Spearpoint Capital, Mr. Tormey was a Director at Credit Suisse in the Fixed Income Group where he structured cash and derivative trades for hedge funds. Mr. Tormey was previously a Director at Barclays Capital, where he marketed fixed rate and credit products globally to hedge funds, including interest rate and credit default swaps, options, mortgages and other securities.
From 1995 to 2000, Mr. Tormey was a Managing Director in the derivatives group of Bear, Stearns & Co., where he led the effort to market derivatives to financial institutions. He developed structured products for banks, insurance companies, agencies and hedge funds, focusing on financial institutions’ balance sheet to take advantage of anomalies in corporate bond spreads, credit tiers, tax treatment, yield curves and volatility. Before Bear Stearns, Mr. Tormey worked on the Commodities Derivatives Desk at Credit Suisse Financial Products, structuring derivative products for hedge funds, gold producers and central banks. In the early 1990’s, Mr. Tormey was a derivatives marketer at Paribas Capital Markets in New York and London covering hedge funds. Mr. Tormey began his finance career in 1989 at Continental Bank on the Interest Rate and Commodity Derivatives Desks in London and Chicago.
Mr. Tormey holds a B.Sc. from the State University of New York at Buffalo, a Masters of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Virginia and an M.B.A. from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration.
